43 NTNU Scholars Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists, Setting New University Record |

| A total of 43 scholars from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) have been named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in the latest rankings released on October 7, 2026.
NTNU had 32 scholars on the career-long impact list and 33 on the 2025 single-year impact list, with both figures increasing by four from the previous year. Among the 43 scholars recognized, 22 appeared on both lists, setting new university records since the rankings were first published in 2019.more |

NTNU Physics Team Measures 2 nm Carrier Transfer Length in 2D Transistors |

| A research team led by Professor Yann-Wen Lan of the Department of Physics at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), working with Professor Ya-Ping Chiu’s team at National Taiwan University (NTU) and Professor Lain-Jong Li of the National University of Singapore, who also serves as a Yushan Scholar and visiting chair professor in NTNU’s Department of Physics, has overcome a major bottleneck in contact engineering for two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor transistors. The collaboration achieved the first direct measurement of carrier transfer length in a 2D semiconductor transistor, providing critical experimental evidence for the design of future nanoscale devices. The findings were published in Nature in July 2026, highlighting NTNU’s strengths in 2D semiconductor devices, advanced measurement techniques, and international research collaboration.more |

NTNU Researchers Describe New Species of Skink in Honor of Two Pioneers of Salamander Research |

| With funding from the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, a research team from the Amphibian and Reptile Laboratory at National Taiwan Normal University has conducted taxonomic research on small lizards. The team has identified a new species endemic to Taiwan’s mid-elevation cloud forests. It is also one of the smallest lizards known from Taiwan. The new skink was recently described in an international journal and named “Lue & Lai’s Ground Skink,” in honour of Professor Kuang-Yang Lue (呂光洋) and Dr Jun-Shiang Lai (賴俊祥) for their contributions to the study of Taiwan’s high-elevation salamanders.more |

Siblings or Peers? Researchers Uncover the Key Drivers of Early Childhood Social Development |

| Many children today grow up as only children, and even within extended families, cousins are not always part of the picture—so it is often not until children enter school that they have their first real encounters with peers their own age. To understand how peers shape the social development of children who do and do not have siblings, a research team led by Associate Professor Li-Tuan Chou and Assistant Professor Shu-Man Huang of the Department of Child and Family Science at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) drew on longitudinal data from the Kids in Taiwan (KIT) database. The team found that both siblings and peers help children develop independence, assertiveness, and sociability—and that for only children without siblings, peer relationships play an especially important role.more |

| As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly enters educational settings, Distinguished Professor Ting-Chia Hsu of the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), who also serves as Director of the Division of Logic and Programming Education in NTNU’s Office of Academic Affairs, delivered introductory remarks at the launch event for the Taipei City AI Education Policy White Paper on July 3, 2026, in her capacity as editor-in-chief of the White Paper. Meet the Yuchi Music Frog, a Newfound Species That Sings |

| Among Taiwan’s native amphibians, the frog long identified as Nidirana okinavana has the narrowest known distribution and the smallest remaining population size. It was previously thought to occur only on Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands in the southern Ryukyus and in Nantou County, Taiwan. A collaborative study by National Taiwan Normal University, the Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute demonstrated that the Taiwanese and Ryukyu populations differ markedly and should be treated as separate species. This taxonomic revision adds one more species to Taiwan’s endemic frog fauna. The newly named Yuchi music frog is now also recognized as one of the most endangered frogs in the world.more |
