NTNU Visits Partners and Alumni, Signs Alliance in Indonesia |

Indonesia is increasingly becoming a major country of origin for international students studying in Taiwan, taking second place in 2022 with 16,639 students from Indonesia. At National Taiwan Normal University, students from Indonesia rank fifth in number following Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Macau. Meanwhile, Indonesian students comprise the largest overseas group in NTNU doctoral programs. Thus, Indonesia is a key recruitment source for NTNU. On 11-15 August, President Cheng-Chih Wu led a delegation consisting of members from the Office of International Affairs, Department of Chinese as a Second Language, College of Education, and Office of Research and Development to Jakarta and Bandung. Their itinerary included attending the Taiwan Higher Education Fair in Indonesia, signing a cooperation agreement with an International High School Alliance, and visiting Indonesia University of Education as well as local NTNU alumni.more |

Chung-Ang University Visits NTNU, Shares Recent Development |

A delegation led by Chung-Ang University President Prof. Sang-Gue Park arrived at National Taiwan Normal University on 8 August. It was the first in-person visit by CAU since the lifting of pandemic prevention measures, and the visitors were warmly greeted by NTNU President Cheng-Chih Wu. Visit by University of Pittsburgh Asian Studies Center to Enhance US Awareness of Taiwan |

A delegation from University of Pittsburgh’s Asian Studies Center visited National Taiwan Normal University on 12 June. Pitt’s Asian Studies Center is currently undertaking “Centering Taiwan in Global Asia,” a three-year-long education initiative spearheaded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. One of the goals for the visit to NTNU is to forge a deeper partnership with the Department of Taiwanese Culture, Languages and Literature and the Department of History, which will not only provide opportunities for exchange between faculty and students, but also improve the English website designed by the Asian Studies Center to educate about Taiwan and raise its visibility in the United States.more |

On 1 June, Ludwig Maximilian University Munich visited National Taiwan Normal University as part of its initiative to promote international educational exchange. Professor Dr. Bernd Huber, President of LMU Munich, and Professor Hans van Ess, Vice President for Research, met with NTNU President Cheng-Chih Wu, Executive Vice President Frank Ying, and Associate Vice President for International Affairs Elise Li. National Taiwan Normal University celebrated its 101st anniversary on 5 June by inviting distinguished guests to its anniversary ceremony. Attendees included delegations from Hue University of Education (HUEdu); University of Sciences, Hue University (HUSC); and the University of Danang-University of Science and Education (UD-UED). The three Vietnamese universities’ mission for this visit to Taiwan was to advance academic exchange with two of the universities signing MOUs with National Taiwan Normal University to broaden student mobility and learning.more |

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, the number of Vietnamese international students studying in Taiwan has been increasing year by year and ranks first among foreign students in the past three years. As for National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), there were a total of 1,626 international students in 2022 (12% of the total student number), with Vietnamese overseas students ranking third (153 students), following Malaysia and Hong Kong. However, in terms of foreign students (excluding overseas Chinese students) and master's and doctoral students, Vietnamese students rank first in the university. Therefore, Vietnam is a key recruiting country for NTNU.more |

NTNU Delegation Visits Kyushu to Expand Academic Relations |

In order to expand cooperation and exchanges with Japanese universities, President Cheng-Chi Wu of National Taiwan Normal University led a delegation to Kyushu University and Kumamoto University on 17-20 January 2023. The delegation included Vice President for International Affairs Yi-De Liu and Dean of the Faculty of Science Jein-Shan Chen, Dean of the College of Technology and Engineering Ching-Min Cheng, Professor Cheng-Huang Lin of the Department of Fine Arts, and Professor Hsiang-Lin Liu of the Department of Physics. To deepen the cooperation between NTNU and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), President Cheng-Chih Wu led a delegation to our sister school in the United States on August 18th and met with the Chancellor Gene Block and several administrators and deans to further exchanged views on the Taiwan Huayu BEST Program partnership. Through this meeting, the friendship between the two universities was strengthened. Online Forum by NTNU and Kyushu University Advances Bilateral Collaboration |

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) signed a Collaboration Agreement (CA) on November 2, 2021. Through this Collaboration Agreement (CA), NTNU will send outstanding Chinese language instructors to UCLA each year, while UCLA students will come to NTNU for in-depth Chinese language study and provide English language tutorials to local elementary schools in New Taipei City.more |

The Division of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students organized the 2019 Asian Youth Education Development-Secondary School Principal Forum last year, inviting principals from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Myanmar to Taiwan to discuss the current situation of secondary education and topics on school management, which were highly praised by the attendants. Therefore, this year, the Division organized the "Asian Youth Education Development in 2020: Secondary School Progression Policy and Approach Forum-Internationalization Experience Dialogue". Taiwan Team ranked 6th in 2020 International Olympiad in Informatics |

The Taiwan team, trained by professors of NTNU, had a good showing at the 32nd International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). A total of 87 countries and 343 participants are in this game. The Taiwan team got three silver and one bronze, the one of the 18 counties that receive 4 medals and we are ranked as number 6 according to total points.

The Fourth Taiwan Piano Festival to be Held in 2020 |

The fourth Taiwan Piano Festival will be held from February 4th to 18th in Taipei along with the first Competition of Taiwan Piano Festival. Associate Professor Yen Chun Chieh, the art director of the festival organized master class, master concert and piano competition with more than 20 Taiwan and international pianists. The registration is opened to all youth pianists until December 1st.

In addition to the excursion teaching to the sister schools like Kyushu University and Yamaguchi University, and the visit to a number of well-known companies including Yamaguchi Bank, MAZDA Mazda Factory in Hofu, and the production of the famous Dassi sake, the team even visited Yamaguchi Prefecture, which is the home of many politicians and Hofu City Government, they were received by Yamaguchi Prefecture Governer Tsugumasa Muraoka. more |
