| NTNU has a vigorous culture of student clubs. On May 16th, Office of Student Affairs held a competition and carnival of student clubs, which was a yearly event, to show the innovation, creativity and vitality of NTNU students. All clubs pulled together all they’d got to impress the judges, including portfolios of club activities and slogans. The audience responded with laughter and applause. According to He Wan-Yi, a student as well as the chief organizer of this event, the judge would score based on how clubs operated and how they prepared for their activities. more |

| On May 20th, a career fair was held in NTNU, where 72 companies offering 1700 positions to students. The participating companies could be divided into 10 categories and almost covered all walks of life, which showed how business in Taiwan appreciate NTNU students. Among all companies, Giraffe English offered the most job opportunities, up to 120 positions. This career fair was not exclusive to NTNU students only; many students from other universities also came to browse around and look for opportunities. However, a NTNU student responded that he expected more than simply leaving resumes and contact information to participating companies. more |

影音》A Critical Introduction of Six Talks on Loneliness by Liao Yu-Hui |

| “Loneliness is the beginning of a completed life. Without the experience of solitude, one knows not how to get long with others.” Center of General Education invited noted writer Liao Yu-Hui to give NTNU students a critical introduction on the Six Talks on Loneliness written by Jiang Xun, and to share her own realizations on loneliness. The author, Jiang Xun, is the owner of Unitas Publishing Company, as well as a noted Taiwanese esthetician and writer. This book is a collection of 6 talks themed in loneliness by Jiang Xun in 2002, as invited by Unitas. more |

| Entitled An Encounter with Da Vinci Looking Into a Mirror, the graduate exhibition of the Department of Graphic Arts Communication 2009 would run from May 13th to 18th in Huashan Art District, where this joint exhibition by 4 schools would be held. The opening ceremony was in the evening of the 13th, when professors from all 4 participating schools came to cut the ribbon and opened the exhibition. There will also be 2 lectures on the 16th featuring the vice creative director of McCann Advertising, and Cubbish, an emerging Taiwanese brand.more |

| On May 15th, Xie Yuan-Fu, dean of the College of Humanities, Shi Meng-Long, director of the Office of Research and Development, and Wen Hong-Yui, chairman of the Department of English, National Taitung University (NTU) paid a visit to NTNU to pave the road for future cooperation. Principle Guo Yih-Shun was there to welcome them in person and to elaborate on his vision for the potential cooperation. 影音》Individual Exhibition of Ma Yu-Jun: Track |

| Ma Yu-Jun, a third year graduate student of the Graduate Institute of Performing Art, NTNU, is a cross-disciplinary artist in music, fine art and digital media. She held an individual exhibition entitled Track in the library of Kungkuan Campus to show her works from college till now. She was majored in music composition in college and in stage design for opera in graduate school. The highlight of this exhibition was the models of stage design, every little piece of which was carefully hand-made by Ma. She felt that the oil painting collection best represented who she was.

| Discounts and carnations all over the streets reminded us the coming of Mother’s Day. In order to create an unforgettable Mother’s Day for mentally challenged children and their mothers, NTNU held a 2-day camp on May 9th and 10th. The camp was free and open to these children and their parents nation wide. Volunteers from the Department of Special Education and the Department of Civic Education and Leadership wished to assist mentally challenged kids to learn how to co-operate with others, adapt to the society, interact with others, etc., and to give the participants a warm and memorable Mother’s Day.more |

| The Academic Symposium in Commemoration of Professor Ja Fu-Ming was held on May 3rd by the Department of Education, NTNU. Many outstanding alumni of the department returned to their alma mater for the symposium and published papers in remembrance of their dear professor. All agreed that Professor Ja was one of the greatest masters in the Department of Education, NTNU. He devoted his entire life in education and in teaching his students about love. The symposium also had an exhibition of the life of Professor Ja, through which attendants could know more or to recall the dedication of the deceased professor. more |

| Invited by the Division of Careers Service’s My Turn to Work series, Wu Rui-Ying, Chief Operating Official of 1111 Job Bank, came to NTNU on May 11th to answer the questions of students who were unsure of their future and to give them tips that would help them to find their career. Wu emphasized the formula of “knowledge plus skill equals ability”. Students needed to be prepared both in terms of their professional ability and mentality before entering into workplace. They also needed to know their own strength and weakness, as well as the opportunities and threats they’d face in workplace.more |

影音》Zhou Mei-Qing Sent Love with Donated Computers to Countrysides |

| On May 12th, First Lady Zhou Mei-Qing went to the mountain areas of Yilan to give the children laptop computers, which were donated by NTNU and Compal Electronics aiming to decrease the digital gap between urban and rural areas. 100 laptops were sent to 35 elementary schools located in remote districts, and a donation press conference was called in Siji Elementary School, Yilan County. Besides handing out three nicely packed laptops to students, Zhou also demonstrated how to use online learning via a platform established by Council of Cultural Affairs.more |

| The open tournament in tennis of National Intercollegiate Athletic Game (NIAG) ended with Lin Dai-Qiao and Chen Lu-Ling from NTNU winning the mixed doubles. Overall, NTNU won 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in tennis, becoming the university with the most gold medals.more |
