President of Intellectual Development Soft Capital Corp. (智融集團) and founder of ACER, Stan Shih (施振榮) emphasized the importance of “knowledge economy” and “brand name marketing” while he shared his experiences with students at the International Lecture Hall today.
"'Knowledge economy' will be the main stream for the 21st century,” Shih said.
Shih elaborated the term “knowledge economy” and “brand name marketing.”
He explained that “knowledge economy” is to take advantage of “invisible property,” creativity and innovation for example, as instruments to make profits. More “invisible property” also means more promotion of certain brand names because the quality will be improved at the same time.
"To make all these happen, the crucial key would be the education,” Shih said. “These two theories rely on quality human resources and only quality education could make that happen.”
Shih mentioned that there is not enough “brand name marketing” for local industries and that is also the reason why most Taiwan’s brand names would experience difficulties when these companies are trying to elevate themselves as international brand names.
"A good product means the combination of innovation, creativity, manufacturing and marketing,” Shih said.
Dean for the arts department Su Hsien-fa (蘇憲法) said that Shih’s speech would be a good chance for the audiences to brainstorm.
"Know this, he (Shih) usually speaks to CEOs, not students. As a result, it was a good chance for students to realize what he really has in mind,” Su said.
