Abstract
A key element to building a quantum network is the distillation of entanglement, by which legitimate parties can establish entangled bits, called ebits, over an arbitrary distance. Once shared over a network, entanglement enables parties to manipulate them to achieve quantum advantages in computation and communication. The currently available quantum technologies still need to meet the requirements of what an entanglement distillation protocol asks due to the noise in all the steps in quantum information processing, preparation, manipulation, and measurements. 

In this presentation, we tackle the challenge of dealing with quantum noise that prevents one from realizing noiseless quantum information tasks over a network and also leverages currently available quantum technologies to practical quantum network applications. We consider noisy elements, such as faulty manufacturing and improper maintenance of systems, for state preparation and measurements (SPAM), what we call noisy resources, and present a protocol for purifying noisy resources to realize noiseless SPAM. In a realistic scenario, the purification protocol can suppress error rates up to 10^(-1) with a few additional qubits as a resource. We apply the purification of noisy SPAM to a quantum network scenario, firstly, on the distillation of entanglement with noisy SPAM and, secondly, on entanglement swapping in a repeater; hence, pure-entanglement can persist over a quantum network. Our results with noisy SPAM are feasible with current quantum technologies and would enhance existing noisy quantum information processing.
