According to the Office of International Affairs, foreign students in NTNU mostly study at the Dept. of Chinese as a Second Language and the Dept. of Business Administration. These are students who already speak Chinese. If we want to attract students who are not yet fluent in Chinese, we need to increase the number of English-taught courses. Now English-taught courses are available in English Department, Graduate Institute of International Human Resource Development, and master and phD programs at the Department of Math.more

With the support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, NTNU founded the Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Science with Pennsylvania State University in 2013. Since then, NTNU has been organizing International Workshop on Advanced Learning Sciences, IWALS with top universities in the world on a regular basis. The purpose is to provide a platform for scholars all over the world to learn and interact with each other in the field of language science, science learning and learning technology. The "Best University in Taiwan ranking" was announced by GV magazine on July 1st. NTNU ranked the first in number of Chinese paper, average number of Chinese paper published by full-time teachers and the number TCI (Taiwan Citation Index Humanities and Social Sciences) papers. NTNU is ranked the first in the category of humanities and business. Executive Vice President Sung Yao Ting received the award from Charles Kao, the founder of GV Magazine. This is the fourth ranking by GV Magazine and Elsevier, a world known publisher of papers. In addition to the existing 35 indexes like "social impact", "academic achievement", "teaching performance", "internationalization" and "education and industry income", "financial condition" has been added this year. 97 universities are included in the ranking. These universities have over 3000 students and over 150 assistant professors. more

The International Learning Sciences Forum "International Trends for AI and Big Data in Learning Sciences” held by Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Science NTNU took place from July 11th to 13th. Renown scholars are invited to explore the latest research findings and future trends in artificial intelligence and big data learning in theoretical research in learning science, education practice and education industry. About 180 scholars attended this forum and discussed about the future development and trend of learning science. President Wu Cheng Chih, Chair Professor Tsai Chin Chung, who is also the Dean of College of Learning Science, Professor of Educational Psychology Janice Gobert from Rutgers University and Stephen J.H. Yang from National Central University attended the opening ceremony. more

Over the years, our students have shown strong interest in western universities when it comes to exchange programs. One of our important strategies in making NTNU a more internationalized university is to bond with European universities. Lei Chien Ying, a PhD student at NTNU and national archer, defeated South Korea by 6:2 on June 16th. It's the first-ever individual world championship of female archery for Taiwan. Later, she matched with world record holder Kang Chae Young from South Korea. It was a 5:5 game and with extended shots, Lei won by 9:7. Dean Chi Li Kang of the College of Sports & Recreation, Wang Ho Seng, Director Lin Mei Chung went the airport and welcome Lei Chien Ying and Wei Chun Heng. more

On May 29th, Chair Professor Gareth Williams gave a talk, organized by the Center for General Education, at the auditorium with Associate Director of University Committee on Asia & the Middle East (UCAME) at Columbia University Rachel Chung and Associate Professor Daniel Hu at Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation. Prof. Williams shared some examples in Greek and Roman mythology including Cicero, Aeneid, Ovid and Pietro Bembo to support his ideas of finding similarity in different literature to create connection. more

Lei Chien Ying, an athlete at the Department of Athletic Performance and teammate Tan Ya Ting, Peng Chia Mao defeated the Mexican by 5:1 and won the gold of the recurve women's team at Archery World Cup. This is a good start for the World Archery Championship in June and possibly the ticket for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. more

In the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage II, Wei Chun Heng, a student of the Department of Athletic Performance worked with his teammate at Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games, beat Turkey, 5-1. The men’s recurve team won the gold medal and the women’s recurve team brought back bronze medal. more

National Taiwan Normal University and Pennsylvania State University became sister school in 1998. The Collaboration Development Fund Request for Proposals started last year for strategic Partnership. After closely reviewed, seven projects were chosen for funding, in a variety of disciplines, from math education to geosciences to information sciences and technology. The seven awardees will start their cooperation with professors in Penn State university. They would be funded by the two schools for travel and business expenses. La Camera Insabbiata/ Chalkroom, which received the Best VR Experience Award at Venice Film Festival will be presented with the two latest works, "To the Moon" and "Aloft". The Initiative Conference, co-organized by National Taiwan Normal University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), was held at UCLA from April 12 to 13. The theme of the conference was "Sinophone Studies:Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Critical Reflections" During the two-day conference, a total of 48 scholars from Taiwan, the United States, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, South Korea, Vietnam and Hong Kong published papers. More than 100 academics attended the conference, making it a major event for Chinese language studies. more
