It was held at NTNU on October 25t and 26th. Experts coming from Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong came to share their experience and hope to come up with a solution that suits the teaching practice in Taiwan.more

Principal Investigator Hsu Ho Chieh of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program at Design Department of NTNU signed a MOU with Prof. Wang I-Hsuan Cindy, the Principal Investigator of The Spirit of Chinese Brushwork & Crafts of Nanyang Technological University for mutual study and research. The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is the second oldest public autonomous research university in Singapore. With a population of 33,500 students and 10,000 faculty and staff, NTU is the second largest university in Singapore. Their QS Ranking in 2019 is 12 and 3rd in Asia Universities.more

Ang Mei Foong is the alumna of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), where she learned under Prof. Ren Rong; she then continued her vocal studies at Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia, Rome, where she learned with Maestra Rebecca Berg; and subsequently the University of Melbourne, under the tutelage of the renowned Australian soprano Merlyn Quaife. Now, she teaches at the Music Department of University Putra Malaysia (UPM). On October 30rd, she was given the honor of the The Arts and Creativity at the Education Ministry’s 13th National Academic Awards, presented by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The good new spread to NTNU and the faculty of Music Department was really glad about it.more

On the evening of October 7th, foreign students of NTNU gathered at hall 210 at General building for their welcome party filled with performances, delicious food and games. The party was organized by the Office of International Affairs and NTNU International Youth. It was scheduled on September 30th and postponed because of typhoon. The beach themed party was decorated with colorful balloons and picture spots. Students can feel the hospitality and kindness from NTNU, a place they will be studying for a period of time. more

Internationally known Swedish Sinologist Göran Malmqvist, Chair Professor at the Department of Chinese, dies on October 17th, aged 95. His wife Chen Wen Feng said that Ma dies peacefully at home. He was not only elected to the Swedish Academy but also the only Sinologist among the Nobel Literature Prize judges. He had been dedicated to the study of Chinese literature and has translated over 50 classic Chinese literature including Journey to the West, Water Margin, Classic of Poetry.more

The Sports Academic Research Workshop and the Taiwan-US Sports Science Forum was held on October 19th. Professors and distinguished scholars from Taiwan and the United States gathered at the Gold Medal Lecture Hall to discuss sports. The fourth Taiwan Piano Festival will be held from February 4th to 18th in Taipei along with the first Competition of Taiwan Piano Festival. Associate Professor Yen Chun Chieh, the art director of the festival organized master class, master concert and piano competition with more than 20 Taiwan and international pianists. The registration is opened to all youth pianists until December 1st. more

Members of Taiwan men's gymnastics team include Su Ping Chuan, Lee Chih Kai, Shiao Yu Jan, Tang Chia Hung and Yu Chao Wei scored 250.093 at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany, and secured their spots at the Olympics 2020. They attended the final as No. 8 and ended as No. 6, the best record in team in history. Tang Chia Hung also stands out in individual all-around and horizontal bar. more

Lin Ying Shin, a Taiwanese sports shooter from the Department of Athletic Performance, took bronze medal at International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, securing her spot in the Olympics 2020. She is our third shooter that will join the Olympics. Now in total, we have 12 spots in Tokyo Olympics, in addition to Lin Ying Shin, Tien Chia Chen in 25 meter pistol and Wu Chia Ying in 10 meter air pistol, both are from the Department of Athletic Performance. more

The women's tug of war team, composed of teammates of National Taiwan Normal University and students from Taipei Jingmei Girls Highs School, went to Cape Town, South Africa in September for the 2019 Tug of War International Federation Outdoor Club Championships. The team took back champion in the junior 480-kg contest as their first attempt and in total they have grabbed 5 golds, 4 silver and 1 bronze and kept the 500-kg title for 2 consecutive years; they also triumphed in the under-23 500-kilogram event and senior 540-kg weight class for two years in a row.more

The team of building robots, NTNU-AI, made of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded in many occasions. This August, they attended Robo Cup2019 and FIRA Robo World Cup and won the third and the first individually. The champion robot is even invited by a south Korean business to exhibit at the first robot theme park Robotland in the world, which will open in September. more

Wilbur Lin, an alumnus of NTNU, is selected as the assistant conductor among hundreds of applicants at Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. According to Lin, this is his first official contract in the states which last for a year and will start this fall. Before, he gave lessons occasionally. It's an exciting opportunity for him to join a professional orchestra. Lin will be responsible for the education program and tour of Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Youth orchestra. more

According to the Office of International Affairs, foreign students in NTNU mostly study at the Dept. of Chinese as a Second Language and the Dept. of Business Administration. These are students who already speak Chinese. If we want to attract students who are not yet fluent in Chinese, we need to increase the number of English-taught courses. Now English-taught courses are available in English Department, Graduate Institute of International Human Resource Development, and master and phD programs at the Department of Math.more

Since then, NTNU has been organizing International Workshop on Advanced Learning Sciences, IWALS with top universities in the world on a regular basis. The purpose is to provide a platform for scholars all over the world to learn and interact with each other in the field of language science, science learning and learning technology. The "Best University in Taiwan ranking" was announced by GV magazine on July 1st. NTNU ranked the first in number of Chinese paper, average number of Chinese paper published by full-time teachers and the number TCI (Taiwan Citation Index Humanities and Social Sciences) papers. NTNU is ranked the first in the category of humanities and business. Executive Vice President Sung Yao Ting received the award from Charles Kao, the founder of GV Magazine. This is the fourth ranking by GV Magazine and Elsevier, a world known publisher of papers. In addition to the existing 35 indexes like "social impact", "academic achievement", "teaching performance", "internationalization" and "education and industry income", "financial condition" has been added this year. 97 universities are included in the ranking. These universities have over 3000 students and over 150 assistant professors. more

About 180 scholars attended this forum and discussed about the future development and trend of learning science. President Wu Cheng Chih, Chair Professor Tsai Chin Chung, who is also the Dean of College of Learning Science, Professor of Educational Psychology Janice Gobert from Rutgers University and Stephen J.H. Yang from National Central University attended the opening ceremony. more
