At the graduation ceremony of the National Taiwan Normal University on June 23rd, President Wu Cheng Chih presented an art doctorate in honorary art to Chair Professor Liao Shiou Ping in recognition of his lifelong efforts in the creation, education, promotion of printmaking. As a promoter of modern printmaking in Taiwan, Dr. Liao introduced lots of foreign printmaking techniques and advocated the concepts and techniques of modern printmaking. Thus, Taiwan's printmaking art is full of creativity and modern multidisciplinary. He also cultivates countless printmaking artists. Dr. Liao is widely considered as Taiwan’s “Father of Modern Printmaking”. more

Vice President Frank Y-H Ying and administrator Hu from the Center of Public Affairs visited Thai alumni and joined the dinner at Evergreen hotel. Honor Chairman, and Chairman and many other guests came to the dinner. Vice President Ying visited the Representative Tung Chen-yuan at Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand. Later, a meeting was held at the Chinese Association in Thailand. About 30 alumni and chairmen attended the meeting. more

Alumni, retired professor from National Tsing Hua University Fan Siang Bin received the Lifetime Achievement Award of Arts Education Contribution Award. Have you heard of AlphaGo? It is the computer program that defeated the world champion in 2016. The pusher, Aja Huang, senior researcher at DeepMind, is from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, NTNU. On Dec. 27th, Aja Huang came back to NTNU and met with President Chang Kuo En and his professors. Later, Aja shared his experience with NTNU students at Gongguan campus. more

Su-Han Yang, a 28-year-old youth conductor and alumni of NTNU, received the first prize at the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors on November 25th. He is the first Taiwanese that receive an award in that competition. In addition to 250,000 euro, invitations from lots of International orchestras awaits the award-winning conductor. Students and professor of the Department of Music, NTNU are happy for him. Yang is grateful that Prof. Apo Chin-Hsing Hsu led him to become a conductor. more

Chen Chien Chen, who have wanted to play in Japan, went to China in 2015 after his contract with Mizuno Men’s Volleyball Team as one of the first Taiwanese players that challenged the Chinese Volleyball League. His skills have sharpened in the last two years. Chen played in games like Universiade, Asian Championship and Volleyball World League. Now, the 28-year-old pro volleyball player finally joined the V.League in Japan. more

Lin Ching Han, alumni from the Department of Music class 2014, was awarded the third prize for the International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Viola 2017. When he was at school, he served as the concert master of the National Taiwan Normal University Symphony Orchestra and study under Prof. Chinn-Horng Nanette CHEN and Prof. Jui-Se Yang. A mysterious Go player named “Master” has won 60 matches in a row on a Chinese Go website lately since December 29th, 2016. People have been guessing the real identity of the player, and now Master have revealed itself as AlphaGo, the artificial intelligence Goplayer from Google and Aja Huang, the lead programmer played the game according to the system’s moves. Huang is the 16th Excellent Alumni Award receiver. more

The 15th Excellent Alumni Award Receiver Wang Sue Lein was awarded the lifetime honorable award National Professorships by the Ministry of Education. Wang now serves as professor at the Department of Chemistry of National Tsing Hua University, focusing on Solid-state Inorganic Materials Chemistry and X-ray Crystallography. When speaking of her study history, Prof. Wang said that the key to success is to work hard and being down to earth. more

“There’s always chance” said Chiang Meng Chih, NTNU alumni graduated in 2009. Chiang was born in Pingtung, Taiwan. It was due to the poverty of her family that she has self-studied art since she’s a child. In 2005, she graduated in the honor of the first place from art talented class of National Pingtung Senior High School where she received 3-years full scholarship. Meng was later accepted to a BFA in Visual Communication Design from National Taiwan Normal University, as the recipient of Merit Scholarship. She actively explored to a great diversity of design and developed a new perspective on creative expression.more

Liu, now 84, is universally honored as the earliest and most important advocate of modernist Chinese painting. As a chair professor in NTNU and an alumnus from the Department of Fine Arts, he is the first Taiwanese member in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the first Chinese painter that receive this honor. On October 14th, he came back to Wen Huei Hall, NTNU for the celebration ceremony. President Chang commended him for the honor and NTM Director Mr. Chen Jimin came with greeting. more

Dr. Chiu-yu Tseng, currantly Chair of Institute of Linguistics in Academia Sinica, is elected Fellow of International Speech Communication Association (abbreviated. ISCA). With her contributions to prosody understanding through corpus-based analysis and modeling, Dr. Tseng is the first female scholar and the second Taiwanese receiving this distinguished fellowship. The new fellows are invited to the annual event in San Francisco from September 8th to 12th.more

Viola Cheng from the In-service Master Program of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education was invited to the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit as the first Taiwanese representative. The 7th Global Entrepreneurship Summit was held by the United States from June 22nd to 24th in Silicon Valley. Among 5000 entrepreneurs, only 100 will be selected by the United States Department of State. There are three people from Taiwan that has the honor and Cheng is the only student. more
