National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) officially inaugurates its 15th president, Dr. Yao-Ting Sung, on 23 February 2026, marking a new chapter for the University. Professor Stephen J.H. Yang, a distinguished Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Central University (NCU), has been appointed as NTNU Vice President, effective 23 March. On the same day, Professor Chun-Yen Chang of NTNU's Graduate Institute of Science Education was awarded one of the highest academic honors in Taiwan, the National Chair Professorship by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has once again topped Taiwan's national universities in international student enrollment, according to newly released statistics from the Ministry of Education (MOE). During the 2025–2026 academic year, international degree students account for 13.39% of NTNU's total student body, which is the highest proportion among all national universities in Taiwan for the second consecutive year. This is a 1.34 percentage point increase from the previous year's figure of 12.05%. The gap between NTNU and the second-ranked national university has widened to 1.54 percentage points, suggesting that NTNU’s lead is not merely holding but growing.[ more ]

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has taken significant strides in deepening its academic partnerships in Japan, with President Cheng-Chih Wu leading two senior-level delegation visits to some of Japan's most prestigious private universities. The visits to the Kantō region in October 2025 and the Kansai region in January 2026 brought NTNU representatives to Waseda University, Keio University, Ritsumeikan University, and Doshisha University. Key areas of exploration included student exchange, English-medium instruction, cross-disciplinary research, and industry-academia collaboration.[ more ]

NTNU launched the “2026 NTNU × Glasgow × Kyushu Winter Institute on Sustainability” in January, establishing a new cross-national platform for sustainability education during the university’s 65-day winter break. The program and its accompanying “2026 Transnational Forum on Sustainability” brought together more than 300 students and professionals from 15 countries and 13 universities.[ more ]

For nearly seven decades, the Mandarin Training Center (MTC) at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has stood at the forefront of Chinese-language education for international learners. As the largest and most distinguished center for teaching Mandarin as a second language in Taiwan, the MTC has long been more than a language school. It serves as a gateway for people abroad to immerse themselves in Taiwanese life. Last year in 2025, MTC surpassed 10,000 enrolled students for the academic year, marking a full and robust recovery following the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic.[ more ]

國立臺灣師範大學國語教學中心成立近70年，去年學員人次破萬，國語中心課程結合臺灣文化，帶學生製作鳳梨酥、小籠包等，還體驗藍染、布袋戲、媽祖遶境等活動，帶外籍學員感受道地臺灣味。 臺師大國語中心成立於1956年秋季，至今已有近70年歷史，學員來自世界各地80多個國家，是全臺最大最著名的以華語為第二語言教學的中心。 臺師大國語中心主任蔡雅薰告訴中央社記者，前幾年因COVID-19疫情影響，國語中心學員人數也有所減少，但近幾年已逐步回溫，從2022年的6144人次成長到2025年逾萬人次，漸漸恢復和疫情前相仿的狀況。[ more ]

An intensive Winter School was held in Taipei from 2-6 February, attended by students and scholars from National Taiwan Normal University, France's Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (Inalco), and Canada's École nationale d'administration publique (ÉNAP). Winter School participants came from three countries for a week of immersive academic exchange focused on diplomacy, international relations, and public policy practice.[ more ]

Among Taiwan’s native amphibians, the frog long identified as Nidirana okinavana has the narrowest known distribution and the smallest remaining population size. It was previously thought to occur only on Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands in the southern Ryukyus and in Nantou County, Taiwan. A collaborative study by National Taiwan Normal University, the Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute demonstrated that the Taiwanese and Ryukyu populations differ markedly and should be treated as separate species. This taxonomic revision adds one more species to Taiwan’s endemic frog fauna. The newly named Yuchi music frog is now also recognized as one of the most endangered frogs in the world.[ more ]

響應世界青蛙日 臺師大與生多所發表新物種「魚池琴蛙」 破解40年身世懸案！取拉丁學名以表彰陳世煌教授首次發現 全球最瀕危蛙種警訊 保育刻不容緩 學者呼籲保護棲地 今天3月20日是世界青蛙日，在臺灣所有原生兩棲類之中，「豎琴蛙」是分布範圍最狹隘、族群數量最少的蛙類。豎琴蛙過去被認定僅分布於琉球南部的石垣島、西表島，以及臺灣的南投縣。經由臺灣師範大學與農業部生物多樣性研究所及農業部林業試驗所的合作研究，證明臺灣與琉球的豎琴蛙有明顯的差異，為一個獨立物種，並加以命名。這個分類上的異動讓臺灣的特有種蛙類數量再加1種，而獲得新名字的「魚池琴蛙」，也成為全球最瀕危的蛙類之一。[ more ]

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is proud to announce that Pade Technology, a company founded by faculty and students in the Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Science and Technology (IEO) at NTNU, has been awarded the Best Startup (Cross-Category) Gold Medal by the 2025 Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA). The winning entry, ReFiber One, is a smart system for low-carbon textile recycling. The team was subsequently received by President William Lai Ching-te at the Presidential Office on 2 February, accompanied by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Digital Affairs Isabel Hou Yi-hsou in recognition of this award’s significance.[ more ]
