National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) athletes brought home 50 gold medals, 47 silver medals and 33 bronze medals as the 2008 National Intercollegiate Athletic Game (NIAG) was concluded at National Changhua University of Education today.
"I would appreciate everybody’s efforts for this result,” said Jwo Jium-chem (卓俊辰), director for the Office of Physical Education and Sports. “I am hoping that my fellow NTNU athletes would keep honoring that spirit when we return to this game next year, when NTNU will be the host.”
Among the 50 gold medals, 19 of them came from NTNU swimmers, another 12 came from gymnastics, eight of them were earned by track and field athletes, three of them were pocketed from taekwondo match-ups, two of them crowned themselves from archery, while athletes for fencing, woodball, judo, badminton, table tennis and tennis also won a gold medal for each.
For silver medal winners, 16 of them were swimmers, 14 of them ahieved it from gymnastics, six of them won during track and field related games, four of them won during taekwondo match-ups, three of them earned the medals from badminton match-ups and four of them were woodball and tennis players.
The 33 bronze medals were won during swimming, gymnastics, track and field, taekwondo, badminton, woodball, judo, archery and table tennis games.
In addition to being the big winner of the 2008 NIAG, NTNU athletes also combined the performances of taekwondo and street dance as part of the show during the farewell, while Jwo, on behalf of NTNU, promised that NTNU personnel will do their best to host the 2009 NIAG.
"We will do our best to blow everybody away. Our remarkable athletes will enjoy the games and it will be a brand new experience for all of them,” Jwo said.
