Sasithorn Somchai from Thailand was the highlighted songbird of the “NTNU Stars, Master Diva” (師大之星, 大師嗓英) contest at the auditorium on the main campus today, as she was the winner of the first prize, the Best State Manner and Miss Popular.
Somchai is currently studying Mandarin at the Mandarin Training Center. Whitney Houston’s renowned hit “Saving All My Love For You” made her become the brightest star at the contest.
The three-hour-and-half contest, joined by a total of 31 participants, was co-organized by the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of English. Nina Lee (李佳穎), convener of the activity, said that her fellow staff have tried hard to promote the activity in return of more participants’ or students’ echoing.
"This annual activity is more like a tradition but we were hoping that more students would have a chance to express themselves through singing,” Lee said.
To encourage more participants, Lee said, her fellow staff also established a website, where Internet surfers would log on and join the game of predicting winners of different prizes of the contest. In addition, they also recorded clips of comments and regards from participants’ friends and themselves and these clips were also shown prior to each performance by them during the contest.
