On August 7, 2026, a delegation from the Korea Mission in Taipei visited National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). The delegation was led by Representative HWANG Jaeho, accompanied by Section Chief KIM Eun Ji and Researcher and Executive Secretary LEE In Ho. The visit marked Representative Huang's first visit to the university since assuming his post in July 2026.

President SUNG Yao-Ting personally welcomed the delegation, joined by Associate Vice President for International Affairs HSIEH Hsiu-Mei and Professor CHIN En-Mei of NTNU's Department of East Asian Studies.

Given Representative Hwang's extensive background in international relations and political science, as well as his academic roots and long-standing connection with Taiwan, the visit offered a fitting occasion to strengthen academic and cultural ties between Taiwan and Korea. Having studied in Taiwan, Representative Hwang recalled that he would often visit NTNU during his free time as a student, reflecting his long-standing connection with NTNU.

President Sung noted that, beyond existing economic and cultural exchanges, he hopes NTNU and the Korea Mission in Taipei can pursue closer academic partnerships going forward. He observed that Taiwanese and Korean societies share many similarities and face comparable challenges, creating strong potential for collaboration and mutual learning, and pointed to NTNU's particular strengths in education, music, and the arts as areas rich with possibility. President Sung expressed hope that academic cooperation between the two institutions — whether through faculty members or students — could become more organized and formalized going forward, rather than developing through individual connections.

Professor Chin added that NTNU's College of Liberal Arts already offers a Policies of Korean Studies and Language Program, which could serve as a foundation for expanded exchange opportunities between students from NTNU and Korean universities.

The visit concluded with a tour of the NTNU Art Museum, which is currently hosting the special exhibition Symbiotic Splendor: Art Encounters Across Japan and Taiwan. Reflecting on the shared artistic sensibilities found across East Asian cultures, the delegation noted how such exhibitions can reveal common threads across different traditions. Representative Hwang remarked that the exhibit offered a tangible source of inspiration, and expressed his hope for future collaborative opportunities between Taiwan and Korea in the cultural and academic spheres.
