| Due to the establishment of NTNU-Haskins Joint Laboratory of Brain Development and Learning, Academician of Academia Sinica Ovid Tzeng, Prof. Daisy L. Hung, Prof. Kenneth Pugh, the Director of Research at Haskins Laboratories, Vice President of Finance & Administration and Prof. Joseph Cardone, UNESCO Chair on Inclusive Literacy Learning for All, University of Jyväskylä Heikki Lyytinen came to NTNU and had a discussion about future cooperation with President Wu Cheng Chih and Executive Vice President Sung Yao Ting. The MOU was signed and both parties expect that with the establishment of the laboratory, more outstanding scholars can be linked together. more |

The Academic Alliance of Humanities of New Southbound Project visited Jakarta and Bandung in Indonesia to build relationship. The College of Education of NTNU is the organizer of the Academic Alliance of Humanities of New Southbound Project of the Ministry of Education. From September 9th to 12th, Vice Dean Kuo Jong Long, Vice Dean Mao Chin Ju and Dean Pan Shu Man of the College of International Studies and Social Sciences, Vice Dean Liao Shyue Cherng of College of Liberal Arts visited universities in Jakarta and Bandung along with other professors from NTU, NCCU, NTHU and NCKU. more |

| The group of EMBA students visited Japan on September 8th to 13th, lead by Vice President Frank Yung-Hsiang Ying, Dean of the College of Management Chou De Wai, Director Wang Shih Ju and Prof. Lin Shu Jou.
In addition to the excursion teaching to the sister schools like Kyushu University and Yamaguchi University, and the visit to a number of well-known companies including Yamaguchi Bank, MAZDA Mazda Factory in Hofu, and the production of the famous Dassi sake, the team even visited Yamaguchi Prefecture, which is the home of many politicians and Hofu City Government, they were received by Yamaguchi Prefecture Governer Tsugumasa Muraoka. more |

Lin Ying Shin Took Bronze and Got Spot for Olympics 2020 |

Lin Ying Shin, a Taiwanese sports shooter from the Department of Athletic Performance, took bronze medal at International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, securing her spot in the Olympics 2020. She is our third shooter that will join the Olympics. Now in total, we have 12 spots in Tokyo Olympics, in addition to Lin Ying Shin, Tien Chia Chen in 25 meter pistol and Wu Chia Ying in 10 meter air pistol, both are from the Department of Athletic Performance. more |

Chinese Taipei Tug of War Team Took 5 Gold 4 Silver 1 Bronze in 2019 from Europe |

| The women's tug of war team, composed of teammates of National Taiwan Normal University and students from Taipei Jingmei Girls Highs School, went to Cape Town, South Africa in September for the 2019 Tug of War International Federation Outdoor Club Championships. The team took back champion in the junior 480-kg contest as their first attempt and in total they have grabbed 5 golds, 4 silver and 1 bronze and kept the 500-kg title for 2 consecutive years; they also triumphed in the under-23 500-kilogram event and senior 540-kg weight class for two years in a row.more |

The team of building robots, NTNU-AI, made of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded in many occasions. This August, they attended Robo Cup2019 and FIRA Robo World Cup and won the third and the first individually. The champion robot is even invited by a south Korean business to exhibit at the first robot theme park Robotland in the world, which will open in September. more |

Pre-service Teachers Visited Chiba University |

Since we have established an exchange program with Chiba University in 2017, we have been sending pre-service teachers abroad for training. In 2019, the exchange program was hosted by Professor Yeh Yi Fen, four pre-service teachers were sent to Japan in July for a two-week training. more |

Alumnus Wilbur Lin to be New Assistant Conductor at Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra |

Wilbur Lin, an alumnus of NTNU, is selected as the assistant conductor among hundreds of applicants at Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. According to Lin, this is his first official contract in the states which last for a year and will start this fall. Before, he gave lessons occasionally. It's an exciting opportunity for him to join a professional orchestra. Lin will be responsible for the education program and tour of Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Youth orchestra.

Alumni Open English-taught Courses at NTNU |

| According to the Office of International Affairs, foreign students in NTNU mostly study at the Dept. of Chinese as a Second Language and the Dept. of Business Administration. These are students who already speak Chinese. If we want to attract students who are not yet fluent in Chinese, we need to increase the number of English-taught courses. Now English-taught courses are available in English Department, Graduate Institute of International Human Resource Development, and master and phD programs at the Department of Math.more |

With the support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, NTNU founded the Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Science with Pennsylvania State University in 2013. Since then, NTNU has been organizing International Workshop on Advanced Learning Sciences, IWALS with top universities in the world on a regular basis. The purpose is to provide a platform for scholars all over the world to learn and interact with each other in the field of language science, science learning and learning technology. NTNU Tops at Humanities and Business University in Taiwan |

The "Best University in Taiwan ranking" was announced by GV magazine on July 1st. NTNU ranked the first in number of Chinese paper, average number of Chinese paper published by full-time teachers and the number TCI (Taiwan Citation Index Humanities and Social Sciences) papers. NTNU is ranked the first in the category of humanities and business. Executive Vice President Sung Yao Ting received the award from Charles Kao, the founder of GV Magazine. This is the fourth ranking by GV Magazine and Elsevier, a world known publisher of papers. In addition to the existing 35 indexes like "social impact", "academic achievement", "teaching performance", "internationalization" and "education and industry income", "financial condition" has been added this year. 97 universities are included in the ranking. These universities have over 3000 students and over 150 assistant professors. more |

Scholars Gather at International Learning Sciences Forum in NTNU |

The International Learning Sciences Forum "International Trends for AI and Big Data in Learning Sciences” held by Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Science NTNU took place from July 11th to 13th. Renown scholars are invited to explore the latest research findings and future trends in artificial intelligence and big data learning in theoretical research in learning science, education practice and education industry. About 180 scholars attended this forum and discussed about the future development and trend of learning science. President Wu Cheng Chih, Chair Professor Tsai Chin Chung, who is also the Dean of College of Learning Science, Professor of Educational Psychology Janice Gobert from Rutgers University and Stephen J.H. Yang from National Central University attended the opening ceremony. more |

The 13-day Summer Universiade Napoli 2019 ended on July 14th. Athletics from NTNU have made an impressive performance, earning 3 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze for Taiwan, accounting for 1/3 of medals. Lei Chien Ying Won Two Gold at World Archery Championships |

Lei Chien Ying, a PhD student at NTNU and national archer, defeated South Korea by 6:2 on June 16th. It's the first-ever individual world championship of female archery for Taiwan. Later, she matched with world record holder Kang Chae Young from South Korea. It was a 5:5 game and with extended shots, Lei won by 9:7. Dean Chi Li Kang of the College of Sports & Recreation, Wang Ho Seng, Director Lin Mei Chung went the airport and welcome Lei Chien Ying and Wei Chun Heng. more |

| On May 29th, Chair Professor Gareth Williams gave a talk, organized by the Center for General Education, at the auditorium with Associate Director of University Committee on Asia & the Middle East (UCAME) at Columbia University Rachel Chung and Associate Professor Daniel Hu at Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation. Lei Chien Ying, an athlete at the Department of Athletic Performance and teammate Tan Ya Ting, Peng Chia Mao defeated the Mexican by 5:1 and won the gold of the recurve women's team at Archery World Cup. This is a good start for the World Archery Championship in June and possibly the ticket for 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
