Detecting the size of primordial black holes with superhorizon perturbations |

| At the onset of the cosmic journey, the inflationary mechanism produced superhorizon curvature perturbations which affected the future formation of the universe. This study analyzed the growth of superhorizon curvature perturbations in the inflationary universe. Using a simple ultraslow-roll model, we derived the coherence function between any two points in the curvature perturbation. It showed that the causality limits the growth of the curvature perturbation, thereby constraining the important inflationary slow-roll parameters, allowing the universe to produce a large enough primordial black hole. Our research will help estimate how curvature perturbations form primordial black holes in the universe.more |

Current Exhibit of Restored Sculptures Showcases NTNU’s Dedication to Protecting Cultural Heritage |

| From September 2 to October 6, National Taiwan Normal University is showing “Restoration of Classic Sculptures,” an exhibit of 31 restored plaster replicas of classic Western sculptures. These plaster casts were purchased by NTNU from France more than 30 years ago; they are the only original copies with official copyrights licensed by the Louvre Museum. After two and half years of intensive collaborations and painstaking effort by faculty and students of the Fine Arts Department, the result of their labor is displayed to the general public in the basement level of NTNU’s Fine Arts Building.more |

Joint promotion of Taiwan Studies Initiative and Huayu BEST Program by President Wu and UCLA Chancellor |

| To deepen the cooperation between NTNU and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), President Cheng-Chih Wu led a delegation to our sister school in the United States on August 18th and met with the Chancellor Gene Block and several administrators and deans to further exchanged views on the Taiwan Huayu BEST Program partnership. Through this meeting, the friendship between the two universities was strengthened. The UCLA Asia Pacific Center also held a luncheon for the delegation and invited about 30 scholars and PhD students to join. more |

NTNU strengthens education cooperation with University of Maryland and other US partners |

| National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and the University of Maryland (UMD) jointly signed a cooperative agreement on Wednesday to establish a Taiwan Huayu BEST Program partnership between the two universities, an endeavor that will expand educational and language exchanges and resources for both sides. The agreement was signed by President Darryll J. Pines of UMD and President Cheng-Chih Wu of NTNU during an official ceremony. Deputy Representative Robin J. C. Cheng of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States served as witness to the signing.more |

How does genetic inheritance affect learning and memory? |

| This study aims to explore how epigenetic factors affect learning and memory in academic performanc. Previous studies have shown that genetic factors affect about 60% of the variation in scientific learning (Polmin & Haworth, 2008). However, recent studies have indicated that the interaction of genes with the environment (epigenetics) may be the most important factor affecting brain development, brain plasticity, and learning behavior. Environmental factors activate intracellular signaling pathways and alter the state of epigenetic genes. Epigenetic factors affect neuroplasticity through neurophysiology, which in turn regulates learning and memory. One of the epigenetic factors, non-coding small molecule RNA (MicroRNA) is currently considered to be the primary factor regulating brain development and cognitive learning memory. The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between non-coding small molecule RNA in neural pathways related to brain plasticity, cognitive ability, and scientific learning effectiveness. In addition, this study also examined how genetic factors, including genetics and epigenetics, affect adolescent cognitive function and scientific learning memory. Discovering how learning environments interact with genetics will provide important insights into the academic and practical aspects of adaptive learning.more |

Jokes for the brain: Unlock the neural mechanisms of the brain in reading different humorous materials |

| Humor is a good medicine for physical and mental health, as well as an effective lubricant for interpersonal relationships. Previous functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have revealed the neural structure of the brain in reading humorous materials, and the different brain regions dedicated to reading and understanding different humorous materials. Based on this, Chen and Chang’s research team is the first to use event-related potentials (ERPs) to investigate the cognitive processes of different humorous materials, taking advantage of the high temporal resolution of ERPs to clarify the dynamic temporal differences in the cognitive processes of humor comprehension. The results not only enable us to understand how the brain interprets different types of humorous materials (e.g., pun jokes and semantic jokes) from the perspective of brain science, but also contribute to the integration of psychological research in Taiwan and abroad, and facilitate academic/scientific exchanges between international scholars.more |

Strong Academia and Industry Collaboration drives NTNU to the Top Universities in Taiwan |

| Global Views Monthly published the "Top Universities in Taiwan" survey on June 29. National Taiwan Normal University has been on top 1 for five consecutive years among universities focusing on humanities and social sciences. In the academic year of 2020, the amount of industry-academic income exceeded 1.1 billion NTD, second only to National Taiwan University and National Cheng Kung University, and some science and technology universities. In addition, both academic achievement and teaching performance ranked seventh, which is also an improvement over last year, and the total number of Chinese papers and the average number of papers by teachers also ranked first in Taiwan.more |

| The results of the "2022 Taiwan Universities Reputation Survey” Global Views Monthly, a local magazine, was released on June 8. Presidents and vice presidents of 133 colleges and universities in Taiwan evaluated the "Best Universities of the Year" in the form of mutual evaluation. National Taiwan Normal University ranked fifth among national universities, one step higher than last year.more |

NTNU Continues Taiwan Huayu BEST Program with University of California, Santa Barbara |

| After the cooperation last year with Penn State University and the University of California, Los Angeles of the "Taiwan Huayu Best Program" this year, National Taiwan Normal University signed the second phase cooperation agreement of the "Taiwan Huayu Best Program" with the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). With 70 years of Chinese language teaching experience of NTNU and the resources of UCSB, together we strengthen Chinese language teaching and promote Taiwanese culture. In the future, UCSB will send students to NTNU to learn Chinese, which is beneficial to building a bilingual learning environment of NTNU and the competitiveness of local students.more |

Among all NTNU programs, the Graduate Institute of International Human Resource Development (IHRD) is one of the programs that provides students with the greatest number of English-taught courses: up to 14 English-medium instruction (EMI) courses are offered in Spring 2022.more |

Taiwan's motorcycle waterfall spectacle poses health risks |

| Motorcycles are the most common mode of transportation in Taiwan, as they are convenient and can quickly reach their destination, saving a great deal of commuting time, but is riding a motorcycle related to people's healthy lifestyle habits? Or is it related to increasing the risk of obesity? The research team of Professor Liao in the Department of Health Promotion and Health Education at National Taiwan Normal University conducted a series of analyses and discussions on this topic. The research team measured motorcycle use behavior among more than 1,000 Taiwanese adults and explored their association with healthy lifestyle habits and obesity risk. The first findings showed that “high motorcycle users” (more than 280 minutes per week) had a 1.5-fold increase in obesity risk compared with "non-motorcycle users." The second study found that Taiwanese adults who ride more than 30 minutes a day on motorcycles replace more traffic-related physical activity (such as walking and cycling). Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that health promotion programs need to be designed specifically for the motorcycle population in the future.more |

| To build a bilingual university, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) established the Office of Bilingual Education (OBE) in 2021 and started to promote EMI（English Medium Instruction）courses this semester to enhance student’s English proficiency and international competitiveness. Does online social anxiety using instant messaging software affect job engagement? |

| In today's workplace, it is a social trend for workers to have a variety of evolving real-time communication software to help them communicate and coordinate at work. The Instant Messaging (IM) software LINE has played an important role in the trend of responding to the real-time needs of the public to improve government effectiveness. However, because of its immediacy and convenience, government workers often receive a high volume of messages. There is a lack of relevant and objective research data on the impact on civil servants’ perceived experiences of their work under such a workplace norm as a basis for promoting the use of LINE in the government sector. To address this gap, this study examined the relationship between online social anxiety, Line cognitive fatigue (LCF), perceived information overload of instant messaging (PIOIM), and job engagement among civil servants based on the media richness theory.more |

| To encourage greater participation and awareness of cultural exchanges and traditions, the Office of International Affairs at National Taiwan Normal University invited performance troupe members Huang Ruo-Lin and Shi Hong-Jun of Contemporary Legend Theatre to demonstrate the forms and attitudes of classic roles in Beijing Opera, likening the opera’s numerous stylized gestures to present-day virtual reality simulations with a hundred years head start!
