| The 10th International Academic Seminar of Taiwan Culture, organized by the Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature, was held on September 8th and 9th. The topic was about gender and this is one of the valuable seminar about Taiwan literature in 10 years. The issues discussed in the seminar includes gender writing, image reproduction, queer research, masculinity, identity, ethnic politics and women's culture. | Professor of Departments of Civics and Education, Yen Miao Kuei, have organized the teacher’s camp in Myanmar every summer for ten years with Love Myanmar Club. | Do you know that the sound made by frogs can be the clue to discover a new species? Prof. Lin Si Min with students Wang Ying Han, Hsiao Yu Wei discovered a new species of tree frog in Taiwan through sound and behavior. The result, “Acoustic differentiation and behavioral response reveals cryptic species within Buergeria treefrogs (Anura, Rhacophoridae) from Taiwan”, was published in September on PLOS ONE. more |

NTNU Students Visit Companies and School in Indonesia |

| When speaking about Jakarta, many people may not know that it's the capital of Indonesia. The Office of Teacher Training and Career Service of NTNU started a program that sends students overseas for a two-week internship. With the support of the Ministry of Education, NTNU sent 5 students from different backgrounds to Jakarta, Indonesia.
Associate Professor Lin Tzu Bin lead 5 students to Indonesia in September. This time, pre-service teachers and those who aren't in education program all went abroad to visit educational institutes and companies. They have visited Jakarta Taipei School, Tungya Collins Terminal, Daijo Industrial, Moon Lion Industries Indonesia and Formosa Plastic Indonesia. more |

Chinese Taipei Tug of War Women’s team Wins 2 Gold at 2017 European Tug of War Championships |

The female team is composed of the tug of war team of National Taiwan Normal University and students from Taipei Jingmei Girls High School. They went to England for the 2017 European Tug of War Championships and brought back in the under-23 500 kg category and the women's 520 kg category as well as number 4th in 560 kg category and a silver medal in under 23 tournaments. more |

| Russia is one of the BRIC countries and one of the world's largest economies. About 250 million people speaks Russian and now you can learn it at NTNU. College of International Studies and Social Sciences, National Taiwan Normal University, opened Russian courses for the first time since the second semester of the 2016 academic year. In the following semester, an advanced course was opened on every Thursday by Assistant Prof. Kurovskaya from Samara branch of Moscow City Pedagogical University. All students are welcomed.more |

| To train professional army interpreters, National Defense University signed an agreement with NTNU for "Army Interpretation of International Program of Institute for National Strategic Studies". The courses will be taught by teachers from the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation. Alumni Chen Chien Chen Joined the V.League in Japan |

| Chen Chien Chen, who have wanted to play in Japan, went to China in 2015 after his contract with Mizuno Men’s Volleyball Team as one of the first Taiwanese players that challenged the Chinese Volleyball League. His skills have sharpened in the last two years. Chen played in games like Universiade, Asian Championship and Volleyball World League. Now, the 28-year-old pro volleyball player finally joined the V.League in Japan. more |

| The Department of Life Science of National Taiwan Normal University and National Museum of Natural Science have published papers about the “striped” Curculionidae that only live in the Green Island. Pachyrrhynchus is only found in the Orchid Island and the Green Island and many of them are protected species. Recently, the two institutes discovered the pachyrhynchus jitanasaius that is endemic to Green Island. more |

NTNU Teams Up with UCLA for Taiwan Studies Initiative |

| An academic cooperation agreement was signed by NTNU and UCLA. The three-year UCLA-NTNU Taiwan Studies Initiative provides funding for faculty and student exchanges, graduate fellowship support, and workshops and lectures. An annual conference will be convened each year with scholars from UCLA and NTNU participating. NTNU and UCLA will work together to be the center of Taiwan Studies in the world.more |

| National Taiwan Normal University has 70 years of history. Among more than 40,000 universities in the world, the academic reputation of NTNU has reached no. 289; in terms of internationalization NTNU was ranked 122 in the world, which is also the highest in Taiwan. Times Higher Education (THE) made a list of the world's top 200 universities with the most foreign students and NTNU was ranked no. 152, the only university in Taiwan listed. | Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade came to an end on August 30th. Athletes from the Department of Athletic Performance and Department of Physical Education bring back 1 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze. 6 teachers from NTNU served as coach instructing the athletes. President Chang Kuo En awarded the athletes with a total of 460,000 to honor the students for their hard work. more |

On August 28, National Taiwan Normal University signed an MOU with The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), which is the first step or cooperation after the College of Arts has signed the MOU with ULB in July. President Chang Kuo En and President Yvon Englert were presented at the International Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony.
In the signing ceremony, President Chang introduced to the guests of ULB the strength of NTNU and welcomed them to Taiwan. “We are grateful to this cooperation. ULB is a very Internationalized university and so is NTNU. Around 6000 foreign students and 1500 oversea Chinese students study here.”more |

Taiwan Ranked 2nd in 2017 International Earth Science Olympiad |

| The Taiwan team, trained by professors of NTNU, had a good showing at the 11th International Earth Science Olympiad, IESO 2017 in Nice, France. A total of 108 students from 34 countries attended this year. Taiwan is ranked the second in the world with two golden medals and two silver ones. The team were selected from among 478 students after a series of tests and training by more than 10 professors led by NTNU’s Chang Chun Yen. Huang Shen Chang, a gold medalist from Taichung Municipal Taichung First Senior High School, received a silver on earth science project. more |

Another Silver Goes to Rhythmic gymnastics in 2017 Universiade |

| One of the last competition in the 2017 Universiade took place on August 29th. Hsu Tzu Chi, from NTNU Gymnastics, received another silver medal in 3 balls 2 ropes, defeating top athletes from Japan and Ukraine after the team got a silver for All-around. Their coach Masami Nakata is now a Ph.D. student at Department of Physical Education, NTNU.
For two consecutive days, the team of Chinese Taipei defeated competitors from Japan, South Korea and China, setting the best record of Chinese Taipei in this category. more |
