Bilingual Teachers’ Training at NTNU Given by CLIL Professionals |

| In order to elevate the overall English proficiency of Taiwanese, the government launched the Blueprint for Developing Taiwan into a Bilingual Nation by 2030 in 2018 and set 2019 as the first year of bilingual Taiwan. To accelerate the progress of teachers becoming bilingual teachers, National Taiwan Normal University has conducted a series of bilingual teacher tutoring and training workshops this year. The workshop “Bilingual Education: Workshop to Enhance Students’ Emergent Bilingual
Status” was held recently. This workshop is about Content and Language Integrated Learning. more |

Huge Progress in International Research, NTNU Ranked 61st at QS Asia University Rankings 2020 |

| QS University Rankings recently announced the new rankings for Asian universities for 2020. This year, NTNU moved up six places to number 61. Throughout the years, NTNU is ranked around 50~60 in Asia University rankings. The total score in 2020 is 58.4 a slight increase compared to 56.1 of 2019. Since the first year of QS Asian University Rankings, NTNU has been making some progress year by year.more |

NTNU Graduate Student Lee Ming Feng Speaks at 2019 IAVE Conference |

| Lee Ming Feng, a graduate student at the Department of Civic Education and Leadership, was invited again as the speaker at the 16th IAVE Asia Pacific Volunteer Conference again. Lee also attended the conference in Germany as Taiwanese representative last year. This year, he and his team went to Bangkok, Thailand from November 10th to 15th as Taiwanese youth volunteer. He delivered a keynote speech “Make your Youth Volunteering Program simple and impactful” on November 14th, sharing his experience of managing volunteer groups across universities and serving. This year is the 17th year of Lee devoting himself into charity work, with more than 9,000 hours volunteering.more |

2019 Southeast Asia Education Dean’s Forum at NTNU |

| In order to assist the development of domestic universities and colleges to develop academic exchanges and cooperation, cultivate talents and develop regional development with academically influential educational and research institutions in Southeast Asian countries, the College of Education of National Taiwan Normal University held the Regional Alliance Project of New Southbound Policy: Education and Humanities under the Ministry of Education. In March 2018, the first Southeast Asia Education Dean’s Forum was held, inviting scholars from the top universities in Southeast Asia and domestic well-known universities to gather for the first time. In March 2019, the second Forum was held and the scope expended. Scholars were invited to give keynote speeches, and the discussion was focused on how to prepare for the competitiveness of the 21st century.more |

Yushan Young Scholars at NTNU |

| The Yushan Scholar Program by the Ministry of Education started in 2018. The object is to attract the world’s elite by providing internationally competitive salaries and benefits so that their expertise can take root in Taiwan’s academic environment and increase the international impact of Taiwan’s higher education. Two Yushan Youth Scholar was appointed, one is Prof. Ulrich Menne at the Department of Mathematics and another, Assistant Professor Lee Yueh Ning, goes to the Department of Earth Sciences.

With the adapting of the 2019 curriculum, the working group of promoting curriculum in regular high school and the Center for Educational Research the International co-organize the Symposium on Inquiry Teaching and Learning in High Schools: Approaches and Strategies. It was held at NTNU on October 25t and 26th. Experts coming from Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong came to share their experience and hope to come up with a solution that suits the teaching practice in Taiwan.more |

| Principal Investigator Hsu Ho Chieh of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program at Design Department of NTNU signed a MOU with Prof. Wang I-Hsuan Cindy, the Principal Investigator of The Spirit of Chinese Brushwork & Crafts of Nanyang Technological University for mutual study and research. The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is the second oldest public autonomous research university in Singapore. With a population of 33,500 students and 10,000 faculty and staff, NTU is the second largest university in Singapore. Their QS Ranking in 2019 is 12 and 3rd in Asia Universities.more |

Malaysian Alumna Ang Mei Foong Receives National Academic Awards |

| Ang Mei Foong is the alumna of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), where she learned under Prof. Ren Rong; she then continued her vocal studies at Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia, Rome, where she learned with Maestra Rebecca Berg; and subsequently the University of Melbourne, under the tutelage of the renowned Australian soprano Merlyn Quaife. Now, she teaches at the Music Department of University Putra Malaysia (UPM). On October 30rd, she was given the honor of the The Arts and Creativity at the Education Ministry’s 13th National Academic Awards, presented by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The good new spread to NTNU and the faculty of Music Department was really glad about it.more |

2019 Welcome Party Ice You for Exchange Students |

| On the evening of October 7th, foreign students of NTNU gathered at hall 210 at General building for their welcome party filled with performances, delicious food and games. The party was organized by the Office of International Affairs and NTNU International Youth. It was scheduled on September 30th and postponed because of typhoon. The beach themed party was decorated with colorful balloons and picture spots. Students can feel the hospitality and kindness from NTNU, a place they will be studying for a period of time. more |

Nobel Judge Swedish Sinologist Göran Malmqvist Dies Aged 95 |

| Internationally known Swedish Sinologist Göran Malmqvist, Chair Professor at the Department of Chinese, dies on October 17th, aged 95. His wife Chen Wen Feng said that Ma dies peacefully at home. He was not only elected to the Swedish Academy but also the only Sinologist among the Nobel Literature Prize judges. He had been dedicated to the study of Chinese literature and has translated over 50 classic Chinese literature including Journey to the West, Water Margin, Classic of Poetry.more |

The Fourth Taiwan Piano Festival to be Held in 2020 |

| The fourth Taiwan Piano Festival will be held from February 4th to 18th in Taipei along with the first Competition of Taiwan Piano Festival. Associate Professor Yen Chun Chieh, the art director of the festival organized master class, master concert and piano competition with more than 20 Taiwan and international pianists. The registration is opened to all youth pianists until December 1st.

| Members of Taiwan men's gymnastics team include Su Ping Chuan, Lee Chih Kai, Shiao Yu Jan, Tang Chia Hung and Yu Chao Wei scored 250.093 at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany, and secured their spots at the Olympics 2020. They attended the final as No. 8 and ended as No. 6, the best record in team in history. Tang Chia Hung also stands out in individual all-around and horizontal bar.

Lin Ying Shin Took Bronze and Got Spot for Olympics 2020 |

Lin Ying Shin, a Taiwanese sports shooter from the Department of Athletic Performance, took bronze medal at International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday, securing her spot in the Olympics 2020. She is our third shooter that will join the Olympics. Now in total, we have 12 spots in Tokyo Olympics, in addition to Lin Ying Shin, Tien Chia Chen in 25 meter pistol and Wu Chia Ying in 10 meter air pistol, both are from the Department of Athletic Performance. more |

Chinese Taipei Tug of War Team Took 5 Gold 4 Silver 1 Bronze in 2019 from Europe |

| The women's tug of war team, composed of teammates of National Taiwan Normal University and students from Taipei Jingmei Girls Highs School, went to Cape Town, South Africa in September for the 2019 Tug of War International Federation Outdoor Club Championships. The team took back champion in the junior 480-kg contest as their first attempt and in total they have grabbed 5 golds, 4 silver and 1 bronze and kept the 500-kg title for 2 consecutive years; they also triumphed in the under-23 500-kilogram event and senior 540-kg weight class for two years in a row.more |

The team of building robots, NTNU-AI, made of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been awarded in many occasions. This August, they attended Robo Cup2019 and FIRA Robo World Cup and won the third and the first individually. The champion robot is even invited by a south Korean business to exhibit at the first robot theme park Robotland in the world, which will open in September. more |
