To help international students better understand Taiwan’s workplace environment and encourage greater participation in internships and employment opportunities, the NTNU Office of International Affairs organized a company visit to TCI Co., Ltd. on April 11. A total of 24 international students from 13 academic departments took part in the visit to the publicly listed biotechnology company.
Building Students with Industry Opportunities
TCI is seeking to attract more international talent as part of its global expansion strategy. During the visit, five students from key target markets participated in preliminary interviews, and the company expressed interest in maintaining contact to further assess their résumés and explore potential internship opportunities.
International students specializing in biomedical fields also met with supervisors from TCI Gene, a TCI subsidiary, to discuss further career opportunities. TCI Gene plans to collect résumés and prioritize outstanding NTNU students for upcoming, recruitment efforts, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to attracting international talent.
The event was supported by the Ministry of Education’s Pilot Program for Professional Guidance on Employment in Taiwan for International Students, aiming to cultivate talent at universities, support company recruitment, and strengthen national talent retention.
An Inclusive, Bilingual Visit Experience
Recognizing that participants came from 12 different countries and that some were not fluent in Chinese, TCI arranged the visit to be fully bilingual in Chinese and English, reflecting the company’s international perspective and inclusive approach to global talent.
During the visit, students learned about TCI’s development history, global expansion strategies, and manufacturing operations. Human resources representatives led tours of the company’s research and development center and production facilities, giving students a firsthand look at smart manufacturing practices and the operational models of Taiwan’s biotechnology sector.
Direct Interaction with Senior Leadership
TCI arranged for eight mid- to senior-level executives from different departments to meet directly with the students. The executives shared perspectives on the company’s vision, research initiatives, and manufacturing processes, offering students a detailed look at corporate operations and how academic knowledge connects to industry practice.
Two foreign employees currently working at TCI also joined the discussions, sharing their experiences of adapting to life and work in Taiwan. In conversations with students—including an Indian student from the Department of Physics and an Italian student from the Graduate Institute of Human Resource Management—they talked about navigating Taiwan’s workplace culture, collaborating in multicultural teams, and the company’s inclusive work environment.
Student Reflections and Future Initiatives
Throughout the visit, students engaged actively with company representatives, asking questions and exchanging ideas. Many said the experience helped them better understand Taiwan’s professional environment and gave them new perspectives on their career planning, especially through the personal experiences shared by TCI’s international staff.
The opportunity to meet directly with company staff gave students a clearer sense of how to prepare for future career opportunities in Taiwan. Several students noted that the visit strengthened their interest in working locally. They expressed thanks to NTNU for supporting international students' career development and said they looked forward to more company visits in the future.
Ongoing Efforts to Support International Talent
Building on the success of this event, NTNU’s Office of International Affairs will continue to collaborate closely with the university’s Career Center, strengthen partnerships with industry, and organize more company visits and networking events. By expanding internship and employment matching opportunities, NTNU aims to support international students’ transition into Taiwan’s workforce and promote a strong ecosystem for talent development, corporate recruitment, and national workforce growth.
