Through a robust offering of international exchange programs, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) continues to expand academic horizons for its students. With an impressive network of 112 sister schools, NTNU has forged significant ties, especially in France, which now boasts the second-largest number of NTNU's partner institutions in Europe after Germany. This strategic international outreach has led to substantial collaborations and unique educational opportunities for students.

Earlier this year, the Taiwan-France Higher Education Leaders Forum showcased the strength of these partnerships, attracting around 20 university presidents and vice-presidents to Taiwan. Among those in attendance was the Ecole Supérieure d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, whose representative, Alexandre Mariani, visited NTNU in April to discuss potential exchanges and warmly welcomed NTNU students to study at their institution.

France holds particular allure for NTNU students, especially those pursuing studies in literature, art, and history, due to its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. Beyond classroom learning, students have the chance to explore French museums, galleries, and historical sites, enriching their academic experience. Additionally, France's central location in Europe offers a vibrant multicultural and international academic environment. For students seeking to master the French language, immersion in a French-speaking setting provides unparalleled language learning opportunities.

NTNU's partnerships with nine French universities provide over 20 exchange opportunities each semester. These universities include Université de la Cité, Ecole Supérieure d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, University of Bordeaux, University Aix-Marseille, University de Connoble, University of Burgundy, University of Montpellier III, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, and College du Louvre. Each institution offers distinct strengths and learning experiences, enriching NTNU students' academic journeys.

Since 2008, over 120 NTNU students have participated in exchange programs in France, gaining valuable academic and cultural insights. Those who completed their academic exchange at Connoble University, for instance, were especially appreciative of the school's excellent facilities, comfortable library environment, and the quality and affordability of its student restaurant. The exclusive U-glisse ski passes provided to students enhance their experience by offering access to Alpine ski resorts.

NTNU exchange students at Ecole Supérieure d'Etudes Politiques de Paris noted the flexible and diverse teaching methods, with professors who encouraged creativity by avoiding specific report topics and fostering discussions that stimulate critical thinking without directly addressing report content. This pedagogical approach, distinctly different from that in Taiwan, offers students ample room for intellectual growth.

Students returning from their exchange at the University of Burgundy said they enjoyed the city's warm atmosphere, known for its red wine and mustard, and found the locals friendly and welcoming. Those at the University of Bordeaux benefited from the school's extensive resources, including free French training courses and various sports activities throughout the semester.

The deadline for application for Spring semester international academic exchanges for the 2024-2025 academic year is June 3, 2024. This year, in addition to a new program at the College du Louvre in France, NTNU has partnered with Kumamoto University and Musashi University in Japan, the University of Constance and Ruhr University Bochum in Germany, and the University of Exeter in the UK. To further support students, NTNU will launch the 'International Literacy Action Plan' hybrid course during the fall semester of the 2024-2025 school year. This course will introduce NTNU’s sister schools worldwide, assist students in preparing applications for study abroad programs and scholarships, and provide comprehensive support for their aspirations for overseas study.
