Realtek Semiconductor, a company specializing in network and multimedia chips, has partnered with NTNU to create the 'Realtek AI Multimedia and Smart IoT Laboratory.' This initiative is part of an effort to improve collaboration between academia and industry, focusing on enhancing the quality of education and research in the semiconductor sector.

The laboratory was officially opened on December 19 by Vice President Kwunmin Chen of NTNU, with faculty and guests in attendance. The facility is intended to serve as a center for multidisciplinary technological development and education, aligning with the university's objective to broaden its scope of academic research and professional skill development.

Vice President Chen noted the importance of the laboratory in providing essential skills and knowledge in artificial intelligence applications, aiming to meet the demands of the evolving industry. Realtek Semiconductor has committed to supporting the educational mission through providing internships, scholarships, and promising job placement for high-achieving students. A representative from Realtek highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership, emphasizing the company's commitment to fostering a skilled workforce in AI and IoT.

Realtek will supply NTNU with AMB82 MINI development boards and other necessary technology to support the laboratory's objectives. These tools are expected to aid both in advancing technological innovation and in enhancing educational programs.

The curriculum development, led by the Cross-disciplinary Academy of Innovation (CAI), includes 'Smart IoT Systems Implementation' among other related courses, beginning from the 113th academic year. The program also includes AIoT promotional courses and the 'Crab Encounter IoT' project, aiming to provide students with a well-rounded educational and practical experience. Additionally, efforts will be made to extend educational outreach to high school students through micro-courses and to promote creativity and problem-solving skills through hackathons.

This collaboration between Realtek and NTNU represents a strategic effort to advance educational and technological development in the fields of AI, IoT, and semiconductor technology, reflecting the ongoing trend of increasing cooperation between educational institutions and industry.
