According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, the number of Vietnamese international students studying in Taiwan has been increasing year by year and ranks first among foreign students in the past three years. As for National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), there were a total of 1,626 international students in 2022 (12% of the total student number), with Vietnamese overseas students ranking third (153 students), following Malaysia and Hong Kong. However, in terms of foreign students (excluding overseas Chinese students) and master's and doctoral students, Vietnamese students rank first in the university. Therefore, Vietnam is a key recruiting country for NTNU.

In recent years, NTNU has actively recruited students from Vietnam and participated in education exhibitions in North Vietnam, Central Vietnam, and South Vietnam from 2016 to 2019. In addition, frequent exchanges with Vietnamese universities were held, and in 2019-2020, the university visited 15 universities located in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Taiyuan, Haiphong, and Hue aiming to recruit students.

From February 5 to 11, 2023, the NTNU team went to Vietnamese universities after three years for recruitment, which was the largest cross-college joint recruitment activity ever. The team was led by Executive Vice President Frank Yung-Hsiang Ying, and members included Liu Yi-de, Vice President for International Affairs of International Affairs, Tian Hsiu-lan, Dean of the College of Education, Chern, Chiou-lan, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Chen Jein shan, Dean of the College of Science, Lin Kuen-yi, Vice Dean of the College of Science and Engineering , Chou Shih-yu, CEO of the College of Management, Hu Yan-nan, Dean of the School of Continuing Education, as well as Professor Liu Hsiang-lin and Assistant Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan from the College of Science, and Huang Ying-jun, a doctoral student from the College of Education, and Chen Chun, an administrative executive.

During the one-week visit, the delegation of 12 visited seven universities located in Hue and Danang, including four schools under the Hue University system (Hue University of Education, Science and Technology University, University of Economics, and Foreign Language University) and three schools under the Danang University system (University of Education, Science and Technology University, and Foreign Language University). The recruitment model for this visit was different from previous ones, with the Office of International Affairs using innovative matchmaking strategies to facilitate in-depth and broad exchanges between the seven schools of National Taiwan Normal University and the seven universities in central Vietnam. Each meeting was first arranged with the school's president, vice president, and international office director to deepen mutual understanding through presentations and discussions. Then, the heads of each college were arranged to directly interact with the corresponding department's teachers and students to achieve recruitment goals more effectively.

At the time of the pandemic easing and the government's promotion of policies to expand the attraction of overseas students to Taiwan, the Office of International Affairs is actively arranging this year's overseas recruitment schedule. After the completion of this trip, it is expected to join forces with the Academy of Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students. to participate in the Malaysian Education Fair in early April, and to hold high school alliance signing ceremonies in Indonesia and Malaysia with three university systems at the end of April. In mid-June, there will be an education fair in Japan, followed by an education fair in South Korea in late June, and the Hong Kong Education Fair in October.

The Office of International Affairs also plans to invite the administrators and teachers from the seven universities in Hue and Danang to visit NTNU, in order to strengthen their understanding of NTNU and enhance interaction with the teachers and staff of NTNU, laying a foundation for continuing the development of international student sources. In the future, the Office of International Affairs will also promote enrollment through various channels and target key countries and regions, in order to attract international students to study at our school and to have the number of foreign students increased.
