On October 26, Quacquarelli Symonds announced the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023, the first rankings focused on social and environmental sustainability performance in higher education institutions. NTNU is ranked 3rd in Taiwan and around 50th globally in Sustainable Institutions and 100th in education influence.
President Wu Cheng Chih says that the resources of the university are given by the community and we should contribute ourselves to the community. In addition to pursuing the sustainable development of school affairs, National Taiwan Normal University also combines the power of the community, government and NGOs to jointly promote global sustainable development. The fruitful results have been recognized by the international community.
QS annually assesses more than 1,300 eligible higher education institutions and this year it released the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023, for the first time. The ranking is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) released by the United Nations in 2015, and aims to present the research and education achievements and overall social impact of universities and colleges in the field of social and environmental sustainability, as well as campus space and workplace friendliness (environmental impact). In the above-mentioned indicators, NTNU is ranked 4th and 3rd in Taiwan respectively, and got the first place in Taiwan in Impact of Education.
President Wu Cheng Chih says that NTNU actively promotes the university's social responsibility projects. The ongoing projects include improving the quality of education in remote areas, companion services for the elderly, initiatives to reduce plastic on campus and in communities, and community mental health counseling, drug addiction prevention and pursuit of social equality. As NTNU recognized by international institutions this time, he encourages all faculty and students to continue to implement environmentally friendly concepts and introduce sustainable ideas and technologies.
The top 3 universities of QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2023 are University of California, Berkeley, University of Toronto and University of British Columbia. According to QS, most American Universities made it to the list, followed by English Universities and German Universities. Only 11 Universities in Taiwan are on the list.
