Education in NTNU ranked 26th in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022

Quacquarelli Symonds has announced the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 on April 6th. QS World University Rankings is based on four indicators: academic peer review, employer reputation, citations per faculty and H-index. The first two comes from academic researchers and employers that reflects the quality of school education; the latter two are objective statistics that reflect the quality and quantity of academic research.

QS World University Rankings covers 51 subjects in 5 fields and is based on four indicators: academic peer review, employer reputation, citations per faculty and H-index. 16 subjects in NTNU made it to the list and four of it are among top 100. Education is ranked the 26th, library and information studies is at 51-60th, ;linguistics at 90th, and sports and recreation is at 51-100th. Four out of sixteen subjects are ranked as the top 1 in Taiwan, including education, library and information, sports, performing arts. modern language, English literature, and geology are ranked the second in Taiwanese universities while linguistics, sociality are ranked the 3rd. Other subjects on the list include art design, info-science, math, business, electrical engineering, chemistry, physical astronomy.

Since QS first started the ranking by subjects, education has been on top 50 for the 9th time with rising ranks for the past 4 years. There are six new subjects of NTNU that made it to the list, there are library and information studies, sociology, sports and recreation, performing arts, geology and math. Library and information studies is at 51-60th, while sports and recreation is at 51-100th and performing arts is at 101-115th.

The ranking can be contributed to our endeavor in internationalization. We encourage teachers to cohost research studies with foreign scholars. Second, we encourage students and teachers to go abroad to visit oversea universities like UCLA, Penn state, Kyusyu University and invite foreign scholars to teach at NTNU.

In respond to this, President Wu Cheng Chih stated that the contribution of NTNU to teachers training in this nation is well recognized. NTNU will continue to strive to achieve even higher levels of educational and academic excellence and establish the finest campus environment for learning and research. This year marks the 100th anniversary of NTNU and the development of the university is a great collaborative work by the alumni, the faculties, and the support from industries.
