A huge step towards internationalization of the College of Arts of NTNU! The Basel School of Design came to NTNU again. The exhibition of Graphic Design is curated by Prof. Michael Renner and Prof. Lin Chun Liang from the Department of Design.
Dean Chao Huei Ling said at the opening remarks that the College of Arts of NTNU and the Basel School of Design began in 2017. The former dean, Lin Chun Liang invited the Basel School of Design to come to NTNU for a deeper academic connection. She is glad that the project has come true. According to Dean Chao, the Basel School of Design collected works of Swiss designers and bring these works to NTNU for students and teachers to appreciate. Three professors are invited to give workshop and talks so that students can know more about the design of Swiss and its experimental process.
Head of Design Department Liu Chien Chen said that the visual is the color of Swiss flag red and white on a oriental folding fan, implicating a B meaning Basel in Taiwan. Director Michael Renner introduced the Basel School of Design. At the beginning, they choose to focus on application instead of theory. When it comes to the teachers of the art school, the most recognized artists became the teachers and was not appointed by the royal authorities. The diversity and practicality makes them a unit Swiss style. They look forward to working with NTNU.
The Basel School of Design is an example of a modern education. They have not only revolutionary graphic design courses but also typography. The Basel School of Design is known to be the source of international typographic style, a trend that has influenced the whole world since 1960s.
