On March 29th, President of Simon Fraser University Andrew Petter and administrators came to NTNU to meet with President Wu Cheng Chih for re-signing the MOU. Vice President for International Affairs Yu Kuang Chao also came to the meeting. They have spent a nice time together and deepen the connection between the two schools.
Simon Fraser University, commonly referred to as SFU, is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada. It has been rated as the best comprehensive university on Maclean's Magazine for several times. SFU has been ranked at 150 to 250 at Times Higher Education World University Rankings and QS world rankings. In 2018 QS World University Rankings, SFU is ranked the 8th in Canada. It's the only Canadian school that participates the National Collegiate Athletic Association of United States.
In addition to President and Vice-Chancellor of Simon Fraser University Andrew Petter, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President Students & International Tim Rahilly, Executive Director of SFU International Darren Schemmer and Director of SFU International Yusuf Varachia also came to Taiwan. This time, they mainly discussed about the MOU and renewal of contract, as well as summer courses for SFU students to MTC.
The friendship of NTNU and SFU started in 1997 and both sides have been sending students abroad for exchange programs or academic seminars. Until 2017, 35 NTNU students went to SFU and 19 SFU students came to Taiwan. President Wu said that Taiwan is the university in Taiwan that welcomes the most International students. More than 6000 foreign students come from 80 countries studies at MTC. 1500 oversea Chinese students also study at MTC. We have built a strong bond between NTNU and SFU. President of SFU also said that NTNU is one of the top universities in Taiwan and even in Asia. He hopes that both universities will cooperate for better performance in the future.
