The first general assembly and board of directors meeting of the 3rd Green University Union of Taiwan was held on September 22nd at National Chi Nan University. Director Chen Mei Yung of the Environmental Safety center was the representative of NTNU. NTNU was awarded as the excellent green university. President Chang Kuo En was appointed to be the executive director.
NTNU is good at maintaining a sustainable campus, environmental courses and educational workshops, second hand buy and sell platform, promote energy-saving measures. National Cheng Kung University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Chaoyang University of Technology, Dah Ye University and other universities also received the award.
The Green University Union of Taiwan, initiated by NTNU, started in August 2012. Now there are 50 schools in the union and the number is rising. The objectives of the union is to connect the resources of all universities and Integrate government, business and non-government organizations to enhance the sustainable management and development of the universities.
Green University Unions around the world have been in practice for years. The higher education must learn and face the challenges of environmental issues, not only in infrastructure, courses and teaching but also to prepare students with environmental literacy and skills for the current environment or even change it. By united together, the union can be the outlet for seeking resources and an institution for education.
President Chang was appointed as the first Chairman of the board in 2013 and in 2015, he was the executive director. This year, he serves as the executive director.
