The alumna of the Chicago Alumni Association of NTNU gathered at Chairman Wang's house in the afternoon of April 21st for the first gathering of the year, welcoming the representatives from NTNU. They are, Vice President Ying Yung Hsiang, Dean of college of Sports & Recreation Chi Li Kang, Associate Vice President at the Office of International Affairs Liu Yi De, Director of the Center of Public Affairs Kang, Min Ping, Senior Staff Eric Chang and Senior Secretary Deng Li Chun. Head of Education Division Dung at Chicago Office also attended the gathering. The goal of this visit to America is to understand the planning of the school development of Penn State University as a future reference.
After the luncheon, Vice President Ying shared with the alumni the development of NTNU and recent visions. The history of NTNU would be dated back to the Taipei Taihoku College from 1922, making 2019 the 97th anniversary of NTNU. In 2022, NTNU will become a university of 100 years of history.
Vice President Ying also mentioned that the competition in higher education is fierce now. There are about 16,000 universities in the world and NTNU is ranked among 289 to 300. The academic reputation of NTNU is getting higher year by year. He also shared with the alumni that we now have successfully invited oversea outstanding scholars to teach at NTNU. For example, Lee Yueh Ning, now a scholar at IPGP (Institute de Physique du Globe de Paris), received a double doctoral degree in astronomy and astrophysics in France will be teaching in NTNU after her post-graduate studies.
In the future, we’ll focus on four main tasks: first, deepen internationalization and cultivate students' international mobility; second, strengthening cooperation with the industry to enhance students’ ability in real world; third, build a strong, sustainable alumni network; fourth, build new campus for a bigger room for development. Vice President Ying also invite the alumni to come and join our 100th anniversary celebration and work with NTNU for our next 100 years. This delightful gathering is a great opportunity for our alumni to know more about their alma mater.
