NTNU Hosts Conference on Inclusive Education

The 2nd Asia-Pacific Conference on Inclusive Education, hosted by Special Education Center of NTNU, was held on June 8th at Bo-Ai building. President Wu Cheng Chih and Vice Dean of the College of Education Guo Jong Long were invited to be opening remarks for this international academic gathering the held once in three years.
Five scholars of related filed were invited to this two-day conference, moderated by Director Hu Hsin Tzu. More than 40 papers were published. We hope to build a platform in Asia for Inclusive Education that can be a paradigm for empowering, participation and inclusiveness.
Prof. Michael L. Wehmeyer fro the University of Kansas talked about empowering, participation and inclusiveness.: The Key Role of self-determination and strength-centered approach for Persons with Disabilities. Prof. James Russell Patton talked about A meaningful inclusiveness at school and community.
Except for American scholars, many Asian experts attended this seminar. Prof. Hyojeong Seo from Kongju National University talked about Research trend on Supports Intensity Scale: Application to Korea's Future Research and Practice. Researcher Akitoshi Kanamaru from Osaka City University shared on Japan's Self-Advocacy Education: Course Development and Examples. Prof. Chang Cheng Fen from the Department of Special Education talked about Convergence Education in the Sophisticated Transition Period - Issues and Responses. Scholars gathered together to share ideas and experiences based on different background.
In addition, a total of 24 oral presentations and 22 poster presentations were published to explore social interaction and teaching skills, transition planning for the disabled, emotional teaching and inclusive programs, parenting initiatives, student initiatives, emotional needs and social participation, special education topics such as resources and support of schools and professional growth of teachers. We expected participants can to actively communicate with each other, learn from each other, and learn from inclusive education theory and practical experience.
