NTNU has been promoting the program of sending pre-service teachers abroad for short-term traineeship since 2014. Until 2017, NTNU has sent 54 pre-service teachers to Japan, Singapore, China, Myanmar and Canada. They can earn valuable experience by visiting other schools, know about the coursed of various countries and how they do it in classrooms, and gain a global vision as well as international mobility. NTNU now signs an agreement of exchange traineeship with The University of Hong Kong for both sides to send four pre-service teachers since 2018. Assistant Professor Yip Ming Fun of the College of Teacher Education is the organizer of the program. Four pre-service teachers from different background were sent to HKU in March for a two-week program. They visited Lee Kau Yan Memorial School and HKMA David Li Kwok Po College for class observation and demo teaching for a comprehensive understanding of middle school in Hong Kong.
One student Chang Jia Wen said that she thought that we have the similar education system with that of Hong Kong. After going to the schools, she found that there is still some difference between the two similar systems. During their visit, the students in Hong Kong were in mid-terms. They had the chance to know the forms of exams in Hong Kong as well as the different style of school life. For example, during the mid-term week, the students have to take a test for different subject each day. They actually think that it's more stressful for students to take tests of several subjects in one day. Another student Chen Tzu Ying said that for recent education reform in Hong Kong, they focused on both learning and teaching and the role of the student actively learning. Teachers and students in Hong Kong have praised these pre-service teachers from NTNU. This traineeship program has laid a solid foundation for future cooperation.
