Want to try authentic food from Myanmar? You wouldn’t want to miss the 2017 Myanmar Week! From May 22nd, the Love Myanmar club sold snacks from their country, and also provided traditional clothes for people to try on.
Myanmar style milk tea, delicious sago cake and turmeric rice are one of the best-selling items. The sago cake was even sold out on the second day of the event. Except for nice food, the students also sold second hand goods and the money will be used at Mandarin schools in Myanmar.
Love Myanmar Club started 10 years ago, bringing volunteers to Myanmar to provide teacher education in Overseas Chinses School. They would also collect Chinese learning books and notebooks to found a library there. This year so far they have collected 133,637 books and 111 used laptops.
There has been some problem for the Myanmar Week this year. For example, many stores are busy preparing rice dumplings because of the dragon boat festival. Hence, they can’t spare time for other kinds of cakes. Also, many club members are from the Department of Civil Education and Leadership and they have to help with civil week.
The organizer Chen said that the Myanmar week is a good opportunity for the club members to know each other more before their journey to Myanmar. The income will be used at Mandarin school in Myanmar. Chen said that they hope to spread the love of Taiwan to Myanmar.
