The Path of becoming a Chinese Teacher

Many people are interested in becoming a Chinese teacher. The Department of Applied Chinese invited Lin Tzu Ching, who was in class 2011, to share with the younger school mates about how she became a professional Chinese teacher.
Lin said that she was the kind of person that likes adventure. She encourages everyone to explore what they really like, join events and apply for opportunities. If you never try, you will never know the result.
Lin attended a one year scholarship program in the U.S. and that was when she met language teachers around the world and know how to get along well with people from different backgrounds. She has made up her mind to become a Chinese teacher when she was in the states. Thus, she applied to the University of British Columbia in Canada for a master degree in langue teaching. It was a hard time for her but her English skills and professional skills have improved dramatically.
As a teacher, Lin said that it’s not a job that will earn you a lot of money, but you will find strength in teaching. Teaching is a fulfilling job as you see students being able to speak fluently. “It may not be something big, but you might have changed a person’s life.”
Lin said that ambitious, brave, content and connected are what a Chinese teacher should equipped. Be active in pursuing your goal with a handy resume to apply any position you like. In addition, be curious and join events that’s out of your comfort zone. It’s possible that when you are pursuing your goals, you have to do something you don’t really like. As long as you stick to your goal, you will get what you want.
One student said that she hopes to become a professional Chinese teacher. After this sharing event, she knew more about the preparation of a Chinese teacher and she really liked this event.
