Alumni Lin Ching Han Received the 3rd Prize at Viola Competition

Lin Ching Han, alumni from the Department of Music class 2014, was awarded the third prize for the International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Viola 2017. When he was at school, he served as the concert master of the National Taiwan Normal University Symphony Orchestra and study under Prof. Chinn-Horng Nanette CHEN and Prof. Jui-Se Yang. His teacher praised Lin as a student that commits to his work. Lin stated on facebbook that he will keep up his hard work to achieve his next goal.

The International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Viola 2017 supports and promotes talented, young musicians, music students, soloists, and prospective orchestral musicians by providing a platform for competition and with its prestigious awards. Anton Rubinstein is a Russian pianist, composer, and conductor, Anton Rubinstein (1829 – 1894), was the definition of an international musician. He was equally familiar with German and Russian culture, gave critically acclaimed concerts all over Europe and the USA, and was praised for his broad repertoire, which spanned many musical epochs and bridged national boundaries.

Lin is a young soloist and chamber musician that can be found in festivals and music halls across the globe. He studied in the music class of National Girls’ Senior High School and the Department of Music in NTNU. Prof. Chinn-Horng Nanette CHEN was his violin instructor and Prof. Jui-Se Yang taught him viola as minor. Lin also have received the top prize in National Student Competition of Music Group A during his years at NTNU. Later, he went to Netherlands to Amsterdam University of the Arts to learn from Violinist Nobuko Imai. Now he currently study viola performance at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Mozarteum Salzburg.

In this competition, Lin played the Sonata for Viola by Paul Hindemith and work from Takemitsu. Having received the third prize, Lin was grateful to his teachers and posted on facebook that he was constantly aspired by learning from the masters. He will keep going toward the next goal.
