NTU System visited the Philippines in January

From January 10th to 13th, the NTU System delegation went south to the Philippines and received a fruitful outcome. In addition to visiting University of Asia and the Pacific, Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas to discuss the possibilities of cooperation, NTU System have also discussed with the Ministry of Science for future cooperation and established the relationship with well-known higher education institutions in the Philippines.
On the first day of their visit, they went to University of Asia and the Pacific and discussed the issue of economic and trade relations and education between Taiwan and the Philippines. On Jan. 11th, the first Taiwan- Philippines Academic Exchange Forum was held under cooperation between NTU System and the authorities in Philippines. Vice President Chang Ching Ray of NTU, Vice President Lee Duu-Jong of NTUST, Vice President Wu Cheng Chih from NTNU attended the forum to meet important figures in the Philippines.
After the meeting, the head of NTU system and the Philippine Ministry of Science and Technology and its 18 Union schools discussed the future cooperation model of the higher education sectors in the two countries. The Ministry of Science and Technology is likely to sign a momentum in the future and will also consider providing scholarships to encourage Pilipino students to study in Taiwan for doctoral degrees. The program is expected to begin in 2018.
On the third day, NTU System went to the University of Manila the St. Thomas University, which is the oldest academy in Asia .Group discussions were held according to the nature of departments. Both parties exchanged ideas, research experience, building a solid relationship between.
Finally, in the morning of the fourth day, NTU System signed a memorandum of cooperation with Philippine University system. At the time of signing, the two schools held extensive discussions on follow-up cooperation. The two sides decided to establish a model of cooperation for deepening research, including co-sponsoring academic seminars and setting up double doctoral degrees. In addition, the delegate of NTU system will attend the inauguration ceremony of the new president of the Philippine University on February 10 and continue to foster bilateral relationships.
